Carter Family Fold – ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band – April 2

Saturday, April 2, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. the Carter Family Fold in Hiltons, Virginia will present a concert of bluegrass music by the ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band. Admission is $10 for adults, $2 children 6 to 11, and under age 6 free. Tickets are sold at the door. Doors open at 6:00 p.m., and the Carter Family Museum and Carter birthplace cabin are open from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. and again at intermission.

            The East Tennessee State University Bluegrass Pride Band is comprised of virtuosic and award-winning student performers with many years of musical experience accounted to each member. As one of the Bluegrass, Old Time, and Roots Music studies program’s 25+ bands, the group has performed in seven foreign countries and noteworthy venues including the Smithsonian National Folklife Festival, the NATO Headquarters in Brussels, the Kennedy Center, and frequently performs at bluegrass festivals across the country. Directed by Dan Boner, the Spring 2022 ETSU Bluegrass Pride Band includes Layla Cantafio on fiddle, Lydie Hamby on mandolin, Will Potts on bass, Will Hart on guitar, Justin Alexander on banjo, and Lizzie Cahalan on guitar.

            The Bluegrass, Old Time, and Roots Music Studies at East Tennessee State University is the oldest established program of its’ kind at any four-year institution. Founded in 1982 by Jack Tottle, the program offers a Bachelor of Arts degree in Bluegrass, Old Time, and Roots music studies with concentrations in Bluegrass Music Profession, Old Time Music, Audio Production, and Scottish and Irish Music as well as undergraduate minors. Students from around the globe are attracted to ETSU for the chance to study and experience the music and the Appalachian culture of East Tennessee and the surrounding area.

Carter Family Memorial Music Center is a nonprofit, rural arts organization established to preserve traditional, acoustic mountain music. The center is a family-friendly, drug and alcohol-free venue. In addition to the performance area, we maintain the Carter Family Museum and the A.P. Carter birthplace cabin. Both the cabin and the museum are historic landmarks and are open prior to our shows.
