First Day Hike at Hungry Mother State Park

January 1, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

Are there animals out on cold winter days? Grab a brochure at the Raider’s Run kiosk and read about different signs animals leave behind. Hike Raider’s Run and Old Shawnee to see how many signs you can find. Then hike other trails around the park and see if you can find more winter “sightings”.

At 10:00 a.m., stomp around 2.5 miles of the Lake Trail in the cold with an interpreter to find if any wildlife is out. Learn where animals go in the winter to survive. Meet at the Office.

For a more slowed-down pace meet in Parking Lot 6 at 1:00 p.m. for a Forest Therapy Practice. Studies have proven that just being in nature can improve your mental and physical health. Join us for a relaxing walk through the forest and soak in the benefits of the beautiful winter woods as you are invited to experience them with all of your senses. Please call the Discovery Center ahead of time to let us know of any differing abilities so we can accommodate. The hike will be on a wheelchair-accessible section of the Lake Loop Trail.

Dress warmly and wear sturdy shoes. Always bring water.

Jan. 1 is a fee-free day.
