VHCC Old Time String Band Class Performance

The VHCC Old Time String Band is an exciting and fun performance class that has been offered on the campus of Virginia Highlands Community College each spring since 2012. The music director at VHCC Mary Munsey designed this class and has opened the class to all students, faculty and community members. Students have an option to take the class for 3 credits or just for enjoyment through Workforce Development.

Some players are beginners and others have been playing for several years. Several of the members already know how to play a musical instrument but choose to broaden their musical horizons by trying a new instrument or a different style of music. Members of the group range in age from 8-92. Some folks come back each spring to play again.

The class meets once a week from 4-5:45 on Monday afternoons in the spring semester beginning in January.

In addition to playing from 5-6 on Tuesday April 19th at the Southwest VA Cultural Arts Center and Marketplace, they will a BBQ Dinner/VHCC fundraiser at White’s Mill in Abingdon from 5-7 April 23rd and at 7:00 at VHCC April 26th before the choir sings at 7:30.
