Since 1932, the Bedford Museum & Genealogical Library has been preserving the legacy and history of Bedford County, VA.
Located in the former Masonic Hall in Centertown Bedford, it features three floors of exhibits.
The first floor has the gift shop, Genealogical Library and the changing exhibit room, currently featuring the legacy of Representative Lacy Putney. The Library has approximately 1,600 books and 40 drawers available for research.
The second floor has rooms dedicated to Native Americans, African Americans, Civil War and before, World War I, World War II through today and a room to our local National Guard unit, CO. A, 1/116th 29th Division, also known as “The Bedford Boys”.
The third floor, where the Masons used to hold their meetings, feature many household items. It is also on this floor that there is weekly Bluegrass Music, a train layout in the winter, monthly genealogy and history forums, and a summer children’s program.
There are scavenger hunts available year round for children of all ages and any Dr. Who fans as well. There are prizes for those that are successful.
The Museum is open Mon – Fri 10:00am – 5:00pm, and Sat 10am – 3pm. Closed major Holidays and severe weather.
