There are two large mowed fields that are suitable for group camping. Each has a picnic table and a large fire ring. There is a vault toilet but no garbage containers nor water. Camping is permitted by calling the Eastern Divide Ranger District.

Caldwell Fields is located about 10 miles outside of Blacksburg.  Follow 460 west to SR 621. Go about 8 1/2 miles to the Caldwell Fields on the right.

Walnut Flats Campground

Camping area features six units with grills and lantern posts, well water and toilets. A wildlife pond is a short walk from the campground. Dismal Falls is nearby and Dismal Creek provides fishing and wading. Numerous hiking trails, including the Appalachian Trail are easily accessible.
