The primitive “Bird Hollow Cabin” is a one room antique oak log cabin located on 25 acres in a beautiful mountain hollow of rhododendrons in western Highland County. Less than 1 hour from Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort, the 10′ x 16′ Cabin sits next to a pure mountain stream called “Bird Run” which is fed by springs from the George Washington National Forest that joins the property. Enjoy the view and sound of the stream while rocking on the front porch, or build a fire and cook on the fire ring beside the stream. You will be sharing the hollow with creatures such as bears, bobcats, deer, grouse, ravens, woodpeckers and squirrels.
Kind of like tent camping the Cabin is a step beyond. There is no electricity or running water so set yourself back in time with candlelight provided, or bring your own small portable generator. The Cabin which can accommodate 2 people max, has a double bed, 2 burner Coleman stove, cookware and dishes, a propane heater and a chemically treated porti-potti. Just bring your own pillows, sleeping bag or blankets and you are all set!
To access the 300 yard road and shallow stream crossing, a 4-wheel drive is recommended during snowy conditions.
