Home to the Carroll County Historical Society and Museum, the historic courthouse was built in 1873 and is the site of the infamous “1912 Courthouse Tragedy.”  https://carrollvamuseum.org/museum/courthouse-tragedy/  “Thunder in the Hills”–historic drama by playwright Frank Levering–is performed each spring in the very courtroom where the tragedy happened more than a century ago.

The museum is on the lower level–tours are available.  Check the website for current hours and days of operation.  Admission is free.
