The hidden gem fishing lake in Mecklenburg County!  Less known than nearby Kerr and Gaston lakes, Lake Gordon is a serene and quiet spot located just off of Hwy 58, a few miles west of downtown South Hill.

This 157-acre, Department lake in Mecklenburg County, has a very good largemouth bass population. Recent sampling showed many bass over 15 inches, with a fair number of bass over 20 inches.

Lake Gordon also has good redear sunfish populations, fair crappie and chain pickerel populations, and is a very good channel catfish lake. Channel catfish are stocked in alternating years.

* Please note that the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) will require an Access Permit for visitors to department-owned Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) and public fishing lakes effective January 1, 2012, who are age 17 and older, unless they possess a valid Virginia hunting, freshwater fishing, or trapping license, or a current Virginia boat registration.
