SVBG was created out of interest arising within the Southside Virginia Master Gardeners organization to create demonstration gardens for the region and to educate citizens about gardening as a lifestyle.
The SVBG Board of Directors is working with Master Gardeners, horticultural and forest professionals as well as landscape architects and designers to develop plans for the development of the sites and very much wants this to be a community and regional project. “We are attempting this out of a desire to leave the region of Virginia we love with a lasting legacy.”
The Arboretum is a large area of the Garden devoted to the collection and preservation of trees and shrubs that are native to our region as well as specimens of other suitable landscape trees and shrubs.
The New Virginia Victory Garden is intended to show the “best of the best” varieties of vegetables, fruits, and berries for our region.
We have created a beautiful venue for weddings and concerts on the “Front Lawn” of our garden. A pergola covered with flowering vines and roses is the exchange of vows site.
A Native American Medicine Wheel and 3 Sisters Garden are at the end of the Woodlands Trail that has carved benches.
