Open canyons descend into patches of woods and fields where elk, deer and other wildllife can be spotted in their natural habitat. The unique expanse of Coal Canyon gives riders a totally different experience, with 127 miles of trail and mountain vistas, along with ATV playgrounds. The trail connects to the ATV-friendly town of Grundy and provides a sense of adventure and anticipation as to what the next mountain ridge or canyon has to offer. Coal Canyon has many green trails with recent additions of several blues and blacks for more seasoned riders. It is an excellent trail for beginners and adventure lovers alike. Coal Canyon also intersects with Spearhead’s Ridgeview Trail system, providing over 200 miles of riding enjoyment. With a trailhead at Southern Gap, near Poplar Gap Park, and connectors to Grundy and Vansant, this multi-phase system is great for riders of all skill levels.
