Historic Boydton is an 18th century towne located in Southern Virginia. A completed street enhancement project renders a charming Victorian ambiance to the entire historic district. As the county seat, it boasts a unique hexastyle Greek Revival courthouse. Built and designed by Jefferson’s own builder, it is a replica of the State Capitol in Richmond. From its central location on a lush court square, it commands your attention, but is quite at home among the quaint, vintage buildings surrounding it. The Boyd Tavern (C 1790), a stagecoach stopover for the Boydton-Petersburg Plank Road, represents a fine example of work by Jacob Holt. A walking tour highlights a replica of the Boydton-Petersburg Plank Road, a pre-civil war, timbered turnpike, which played a crucial role in the transporting of tobacco to the Petersburg tobacco market.
