The Fort Trial Historical Marker can be found off of Route 57- 6 miles north of Martinsville, just off of 220. Near here stood Fort Trial, one of a chain of forts built in 1756, in the French and Indian War. These forts were used as a place of refuge during Indian attacks. George Washington visited Fort Trial in 1756.
