More About Frances Hurt Park

Frances Hurt was a community leader and author of plays about Pittsylvania County. The park includes a picnic shelter, child playground, a restored tobacco barn, and walking trail that leads to a bridge connecting the park to the Chatham Fire Station. There are two interpretative signs: one describes the area’s tobacco heritage; the other gives a view of the origins of Chatham in the area called Cherrystone Meeting. The butterfly garden is an official Monarch Butterfly station for the Atlantic Migration Route. The 1813 Clerk’s Office is the Pittsylvania Historical Society Museum
