Mill Mountain Park is one of the region’s most distinguished parks. Home to the famous Roanoke Star, Roanoke Parks and Recreation’s Discovery Center and Mill Mountain Zoo, Mill Mountain Park is a popular attraction for locals and tourists alike. Spanning 568 acres, this regional park is maintained by Roanoke Parks and Recreation and offers an abundance of recreation opportunities. Within this urban park’s boundaries you will find the Mill Mountain Zoo, Roanoke Star and two overlooks, Discovery Center, 10 miles of multi-use trails, Mill Mountain Wildflower Garden and outdoor classroom, a unique playground, picnic area and pavilion with grills and acres of natural beauty.
The Mill Mountain Discovery Center is Roanoke Parks and Recreation’s newest recreation center, most commonly used for Nature Education programs. The Discovery Center features a beautiful wildflower garden, as well as interactive educational exhibits and live creatures. The Discovery Center’s is home to a bee hive, as well as a black snake, corn snake and box turtle.
Reserved for a wide range of special occasions, including birthday parties, weddings, dinner parties and community events, the Discovery Center is a popular attraction atop Mill Mountain.
